The phone rings and it is Nathan from BBC Radio Leicester ringing to see if I would come in and have a chat, on air, with one of the presenters - Ben Jackson. Errr OK.
The phone rings and its Nathan from BBC Radio Leicester ringing to see if I would come in and have a chat, on air, with one of the presenters - Ben Jackson. Errr OK. As requested I submitted a short biography and a list of tunes. I turned up on splendid Friday afternoon to take part in the Ben Jackson show. It was quite an adventure.
The adventure started with a tour of the city to find a parking spot. I ended up on the roof top car park of the Highcross centre. Not remotely as exciting as the roof top car chase in the Italian Job. Then to find my way out of the Highcross centre that was on the right side to the BBC. I had time to have a spot of lunch at my preferred cafe, Almeida on Guildhall Street, and read a chapter of my book, “A sting in the Tail” by Dave Goulson. It’s about Dave’s life and adventures in Bumblebee research. Dave did not distract me for long so I arrived in good time for the appointment at the BBC.
Presenter Ben Jackson looked after me and made it relatively easy for me, me not being a natural radio talent. I still have nightmares about my first stage role as “Doctor” in a junior school production. I still cannot look at a yellow or white Chrysanthemum without getting a chill up my back.
